Devi Charan Shetty explained Eosinophilic Granulomas of Jaws

Medical science is very vast field and it is growing day by day because more and more experiments are done in this field and Dr. Devi Charan Shetty also well known for contributing in this field. He is basically principal at I.T.S Center for Dental Studies & Research, Murad Nagar, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh, India.

He published a detailed research paper on A Case of Multiple Eosinophilic Granulomas of Jaws: A Diagnostic Challenge with Sikka Seema, Sikka Pranav, Aadithya Urs B. His team’s research has solved many problems in this field as Langerhans cell histiocytosis which is an infrequent disorder complex and it includes Letterer-Siwe disease, Hand-Schuller-Christian disease and Eosinophilic granuloma which affect approximately 2-5 cases per million inhabitants per year. Eosinophilic granuloma is basically involves the skull and the facial bones.

About Dr. Devi Charan Shetty’s work

Dr. Shetty presented a case of patient complaining of little mandibular pain and ulcerations in his mouth in his research paper but finally after detailed diagnosis, it is depicted as a case of eosinophilic granuloma on histopathology. And this makes them to come to a conclusion that a normal case resembling periodontitis can be depicted as very serious disease and can lead to more dangerous stage if not taken seriously. He has contributed his lot of time for the research field to do a lot of research and gives his all dedication towards his research and at last gives the required result which is also a big contribution in the field of medical science. He also included a case report in this paper of the 44 year old female who was complaining for pain in his right back region of lower jaw and right side of upper jaw since about 1-2 years and after deep examination it was found that she is suffering from 3 ulcerations present in the mansibular right and left posterior region and right palatal region.

Dr DC Shetty’s case report

At first, it seemed like a case of severe periodontal loss of unknown cause but an incisional biopsy was performed from the right most mandibular vestibular region and then Histopathological inspection of the representative area revealed an admixture of inflammatory cells which including many eosinophils with Langerhans cells with the lymphocytes and mononuclear phagocytes. Then after the detailed study by the Dr. DC Shetty and based on these findings and facts, a pathologic diagnosis was performed on the eosinophilic granuloma and after that patient was performed with curettage of the lesions which showed some little improvement in the symptoms of the problems. His research also come up with a detailed discussion on the term Langerhans cell histiocytosis encompasses eosinophilic granuloma and also two clinical syndromes which are Hand-Schüller- Christian and Letterer-Siwe disease which differ only in their proliferating properties. Also the treatment methods have been varied from non surgical treatment like corticosteroids, antibiotics to surgical curettage, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. His dedication towards his work inspires many students and this will surely make a big impact at our future generation.
